by-elections won by Lewisham LibDems
The Liberal Democrat candidates in the two by-elections held yesterday have won both ballots.
Their campaigns were centred on community issues, with the two threatened swimming pools being a major issue for voters in both wards.

Great news! Really?
Investment in the future: "Capital spending on Lewisham schools will be in the region of £200 million in the next 5 years; meaning that most secondary schools will either be substantially improved or totally rebuilt."

That's what Councillor Andrew Brown, which is a senior member of the Cabinet at Lewisham Council, wrote yesterday on his website.
It is rather difficult for us to recognize the same Council that can't afford to buy a scrap yard to build a school in the right place and that wants to part-finance a secondary on Ladywell by saving money keeping the most important leisure centre of the borough closed for years.
It doesn't really seems to be the same Lewisham Council that couldn't buy a Police Station valued £2 million unless the Met agreed to a consistent discount.
Anyway, as this news comes from an authoritative member of the cabinet, we can hope that Lewisham Council can now afford to buy a proper piece of land for the new secondary school and leave the Ladywell Leisure Centre alone.
