About Us

In 2004Lewisham Council announced plans to demolish Ladywell Leisure Centre in 2007 - we saved it! The pool will stay open until the forecast replacement is ready.  Sadly the plan is awfully inadequate and instead of being a plan for a community sport and leisure centre it is a plan for a lifestyle pool for the new residential developments to be built in front of Lewisham Station.

Mass objection delivered

Yesterday, Wednesday 19th October 2005, we delivered our mass objection to the Council's proposal to have a new school on the Ladywell Leisure Centre site.

In total we collected 1862 signatures. To collect them it took only 5 days

Most of them were collected on the campaigning outlet at People's day, Brockley Society Fair and in Lewisham centre on two other occasions.

Thanks also to all those that sent us objection sheets with signatures collected in their workplace, local pub or street.

The objections will now be commented by the proponents and forwarded to the members of the School Organisation Committee that have the power to reject Lewisham Council's proposal and refer it to the school adjudicator.

We also submitted another objection detailing the opposition to this proposal for its detrimental effect on sport and active recreation in Lewisham. The New School campaign did the same focusing on its effect on school provision.

More objections were submitted by individual concerned residents and users.

But with the mass objection we want to prevent Lewisham Council from saying to the members of the School Organisation Committee that there isn't much public opposition to the scheme. ...read more...
