The mystery of the missing councillor
Report on the lobbying action at the surgery of the Ladywell ward Labour Councillors
Saturday 14th August 2004
Dear friends,as discussed at our last meeting, on Saturday 14th August a delegation of campaigners got together to attend the surgery of the councillors of the Ladywell ward. This ward's councillors meet the residents on each second Saturday of the month at Lewisham library from 11 am to 12:30 pm.
They are councillor Carl Handley, councillor Abdeslam Amrani and councillor Pauline Morrison, all of them of the labour party majority at Lewisham council.
About 10 campaigners who are also residents of the Ladywell ward where there well on time. A list of questions waiting to be answered in their pocket, they joined the other people queueing for access to their councillor at the surgery.
And they waited.
And so did everybody else.
And so did the questions in their pockets.
Some of those there for other reasons told us that they actually had a proper appointment there with councillor Morrison.
At some point the Lewisham Library official responsible for the surgery started to worry, as in many years of experience this was the first time that an occurance of this kind had happened. So they tried to contact councillor Morrison, but without joy.
To cut a long story short, they would still be waiting wasting their time if they hadn't decided to wait outside whilst collecting signatures.
Result of the outing:
Labour councillors 0 - campaign signatures 180
