About Us

In 2004Lewisham Council announced plans to demolish Ladywell Leisure Centre in 2007 - we saved it! The pool will stay open until the forecast replacement is ready.  Sadly the plan is awfully inadequate and instead of being a plan for a community sport and leisure centre it is a plan for a lifestyle pool for the new residential developments to be built in front of Lewisham Station.

New School Notice 2

The London Borough of Lewisham
Public Notice
New Secondary Community School

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 28(1) of the Schools Standards and Framework Act 1998 that the London Borough of Lewisham intend to establish a new community school for 600 boys and girls mainly between the ages of 11 to 16 from September ( 2008 or 2009 ).

The School is to open on the site currently of Ladywell Leisure Centre, Lewisham High Street, London SE13 from September ( 2008 or 2009) . The proposal is underpinned by the need and desire to continue to improve education within Lewisham and ensure individuals fulfil their education potential.

The new school will be part of the Crossways Federation of schools and will promote racial equality and the understanding of other cultures and faiths. Where appropriate the school will offer extended services, providing access to children and young people, adults and community mentors, with particular emphasis on bringing together different community groups and encouraging community cohesion. It will provide opportunity and positive purpose for young people, fostering active and responsible citizenship which will counteract any propensity disillusioned or disenfranchised young people may have to become involved in anti-social or other criminal activity.

In September (2008 or 2009) the School will admit a roll of 120 pupils (Year 7). The School will continue to admit 120 pupils each year over a five year period until each of the five year groups are full. Pupils will then be able to transfer to Crossways Academy.

The admissions authority for the proposed school will be the London Borough of Lewisham.

If there are more applications than places available pupils will be admitted in line with Lewisham's standard admissions policy for community schools. Within six weeks after the date of publication of the proposals any person may make representations on the proposal to establish the new school. Any representations on the above proposals should be sent to Tony Freeman Head of Partnership and Investment, The London Borough of Lewisham, Directorate for Children and Young People, 3rd Floor Laurence House, 1 Catford Road, London SE6, 4RU.

Within a month after the end of the representation period the Local Education Authority will send to the Lewisham School Organisation Committee, copies of all representations made (and not withdrawn in writing) within the representation period, together with the Authority's observations on them.
